Our mother, Peggy Shainberg, was a brilliant, beautiful and sweet lady with a great sense of humor. She was born in Hayti, MO, and went on to Baylor University at only 16 years old. Her college life saw many awards including the prestigious award of Outstanding Radio Script Writer.
After graduation, she was hired as the continuity writer for the radio station KBOA. She met the announcer, Norm Shain (his radio handle), a WWII veteran pilot, our dad. We moved to the small, sunny Gulf coast beach town, Venice, Florida in 1965 to escape the cold, snowy winters. She volunteered with Venice Little Theater, Venice Hospital and Venice Lions Club with our dad. In the early 1970's mom wrote her only book, a thrilling well-written mystery. When she passed away in 2013, we could not find the ending but realized the manuscript's potential. Through luck, Leigh met writer Boo Walker and after reading her manuscript he agreed to co-author her unfinished story, ensuring her legacy as a writer lives on.
